Biological Markers 2000X700

The Black Hawk Original Mature range is generally suitable for dogs who have reached a mature stage of life. As a guide, we recommend that this is around seven years of age. However, there are several factors which determine your dog’s ‘biological age’ which is a much better indicator of their changing needs than their ‘chronological age’ (the number of years they have been alive). Signs that your dog is in the ‘mature’ category may include:

  • Loss of hair pigmentation
  • Less ‘elastic’ skin
  • Visual or auditory decline
  • More episodes of general unwellness
  • Changes in their behaviour or mental state (e.g. a decline in problem solving abilities).

Overall, what you’re looking for are signs of change, particularly those which can be affected by nutrition. Regular chicken and rice for dogs may no longer be a suitable choice, let alone puppy food. It’s important to be aware that these changes can be subtle, and that taking a pro-active response to food and feeding can pay off.
